Traditions
Some of the greatest traditions of Greece are found during the celebration of Pascha, or Easter. It is common for families to slaughter a lamb and roast it over the spit (Pictured at right). Also at Pascha, eggs are hard-boiled and dyed red, and then cracked to symbolize the shattering of Hades by the victorious Christ.
Greece also has many traditions dealing with the past wars they were engaged in. On March 25, Greece celebrates Greek Independence Day, because on that day in 1821, the Greeks were liberated from Ottoman rule. Every October 25, Greeks celebrate "Oxi Day" (O-hi Day), meaning "Anniversary of the No", commemorating the rejection of an ultimatum by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
