The Parthenon on the of the Acropolis is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Greece. The construction of the Parthenon started in 447 BC, which was replacing an older temple that was destroyed by the Persians, and was completed in 432 BC. The Parthenon has been used as a temple, fortress, church, mosque, and powder magazine.
Santorini is positioned on a volcanic island in the Cyclades group of the Greek islands. It is famous for its amazing views, its architecture in its capital, Fira, and its cobblestone streets filled with shops, tavernas, hotels and cafes, all on the edge of 1,300 ft high cliffs.
Myrtos Beach is located in the north-west of Kefalonia, and is a popular tourist attraction due to its clear sea, smooth marble pebbles, and the steep mountains and tall cliffs behind the beach. Myrtos has been voted 12 times as the best beach in Greece.
Mykonos is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Greece, and is widely popular cosmopolitan tourist area. Mykonos Town (Chora) is popular for its beautiful town and it’s maze of small streets, as well as its sandy beaches and bustling nightlife.
Meteora is located in central Greece, and is a collection of six monasteries built upon several rock pillars. Access to the monasteries is difficult, requiring either long ladders or large nets to bring both people and goods up to the monasteries. This required quite a leap of faith – the ropes were replaced only “when the Lord let them break”.
Delphi Theatre: In Ancient Greece, Delphi was home to the sanctuary and oracle of Apollo is Greek religion. The Theatre was built upon a hill, providing a great view of the sanctuary and the landscape below. When it was originally constructed, it could seat 5,000 spectators, and is one of the top tourist attractions in Greece today.
Samaria Gorge: The Gorge is located in southwest Crete, and is a total of 10 miles long. The walk can take between 4-7 hours, and passes through various forests of ancient cypresses and pines, cuts between vertical cliffs through the mountains, and ends at Agia Roumeli on the Libyan sea.
